Before you use the hard drive, you need to format the external hard drive.
Ensure that you have a PS4 system with version 4.5 or later.
Ensure that you have a USB 3.0 cable or USB 3.1 Gen 1 connector.
Follow the steps given below:
Plug the USB 3.0 cable into one of the ports of PS4.
Scroll down to select Devices under Settings.
From the available options, scroll down and select USB Storage Device. The device is automatically detected on your PS4.
Select the Format as Extended Storage tab and then select Next.
Click the Format tab.
After the formatting process gets completed, the device will be seen under Settings.
Navigate back to your system menu. You’ll see the new external drive. You can also change the default in PS4’s storage settings.
