HOW TO RESET THE CISCO ROUTER?

If you want to resolve problems occurring in a Cisco router, you can reset it. Resetting router will bring back the factory default settings by following How to Reset the Cisco Router. You can either use the reset button on the router or the router commands for this purpose.   • You can reset the router via the PuTTY app. You can also use the Command Line Interface to reset the router.

  • To reset the Cisco router through the Reset button, search for the button on the router. The Reset button is located at the rear side of the router. However, the location varies for different routers.

  • Long press the Reset button while you hold the Power button to turn it on. Release the Reset button and wait for a while. When the light on the router blinks, it indicates a successful reset. Now, power off the router and restart it again.

  • If the above process did not work out, you could reset the router through the Command Line Interface. Use a console cable to connect the computer and your router.

  • Power on the Cisco router if it is turned off. Wait for 10 minutes for the router Setup to complete the booting process. When the lights on the router blink continuously, it indicates a successful reset.

  • Start the terminal emulator program on your PC to access the command line interface (CLI). In the CLI screen, enter the following commands to erase the default settings.

  • Router --> enable

  • Router# write erase

  • [confirm] < Press Enter key >

  • Router# reload

  • Continue with reload? [confirm]

  • Wait for the Command Line Interface to display a completion message.
